Cryogenic air separation is the term used for processes that involve air separation units (ASUs). In cryogenic air separation, the air is divided into its basic primary components of oxygen, nitrogen and other trace gases, including argon. This is accomplished by passing the air through the molecular sieve to remove carbon dioxide, water, nitrous oxide and small hydrocarbons and then passing that ultra-dry air stream into a cold box (i.e., at cryogenic temperatures) where the remaining components fractionate into ultra-pure forms of oxygen, nitrogen, argon and noble gases. It is essential that the molecular sieve is highly dynamic for impurity removal, possesses excellent adsorption and desorption kinetics and has excellent physical properties. Cryogenic separation is a method used to generate oxygen with a purity of greater than 99.9%.
Air separation plants use cryogenic air separation technology to bring gas streams to extremely low temperatures, which allows plants to separate various gases by the condensation point. Gas that is cryogenically separated needs to have extremely low levels of water, carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide in the stream to prevent freezing and blockage.
Most new air separation plants employ a 鈥渕olecular sieve鈥?"pre-purification unit" (PPU) to remove carbon dioxide and water from the incoming air by adsorbing these molecules onto the surface of "molecular sieve" materials at near-ambient temperature. Molecular sieve 13X-APG, JLOX-300 conbined with activated alumina is designed for cryogenic air separation to remove of moisture and CO2. Activated alumina removes most of the water and 13X-APG , JLOX-300removes most of the CO2.
Molecular Sieve JLOX-300 is specially developed by Luoyang Jalon with higher CO2 and H2O adsorption capacity, as well as H2S and mercaptans removal in liquid hydrocarbons and natural gas.
